Local Artist Stand Up! Filmmaker and poet, Jai Harris, has just released a new video featuring herself performing her original piece “The Dream.”

What is the “American Dream”? In this spoken word expression, Jai Harris gives us her interpretation of what the “American Dream” is and what it could be. She addresses the seemingly undying issues that continuously plague our American society such as inequality, class warfare, and mental slavery.

Though Jai recognizes that the “problems” we face are in some ways imposed upon us by the “powers that be”, she expresses that the greater power lies within us. The poem echoes the cry for personal responsibility drawing inspiration for Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King.

The video is centered in Downtown Denver, highlights not only the Mile High City but her stylish charisma as well .
